Riverwood Real Estate
Guide to Riverwood
Riverwood is a small upscale Arlington, VA single family neighborhood that takes up just a few streets located right across the Potomac River from Foxhall in Washington DC. This neighborhood gives off a private vibe, with large lot sizes and with no main roads as borders, residents almost never see passersby’s in the neighborhood.
Part of Woodmont or Dover-Crystal?
Compared to other neighborhoods in Arlington, Riverwood is tiny, being comprised of only seven streets and cul-de-sacs. Since this community is so small, sometimes it gets lost in the bordering neighborhoods of Woodmont and Dover-Crystal. Many of the homes are lucky to have a great view of the Potomac River and adjacent to the 14-acre green space of Windy Run Park, which acts as part of the eastern border of the neighborhood.
A Small Group of Single Family Homes
Due to its exclusive location, the homes in Riverwood are usually on the pricier end and have the lots, square footage, and design to warrant their high prices. The smaller size of the neighborhood may lead to a conclusion that there are not many different home styles in Riverwood. However, many potential homebuyers looking in the area are surprised to find a variety among home styles throughout the neighborhood. It’s common to find all different types of homes in the area, including prairie, colonial, ramblers and contemporary homes in the affluent residential community.
Private, yet Close to Major Access Roads
Residents find the easiest way to commute to work and get from Point A to Point B is by car. The closest main roads include Lee Highway, I-66, Military Road, and George Washington Memorial Parkway. This makes it easy to get into Washington DC, the rest of Arlington VA, plus other Northern Virginia destinations west of Arlington. The Potomac Heritage Trail is more of a scenic transportation option nearby, giving residents access to a major hiking, biking and jogging trail. This trail runs all the way from Virginia to Pennsylvania.
All of Arlington, Plus DC
Since Riverwood enjoys a nice exclusive setting, separate from the commercial development of Arlington, entertainment options are a bit further than some of the less-private areas of Arlington. However, it’s still very simple to get to dining, restaurant, and shopping destinations. Via Lorcom Lane, Clarendon is just a 7-minute drive away. This means that Arlington’s Downtown is located conveniently within reach. Restaurants like Faccia Luna, Cava Mezze, and CIRCA are often packed during weekend nights, so be sure to get a reservation. As far as nightlife, the streets of Clarendon are always packed on a Friday and Saturday night, which is not surprising with all of the exciting nightlife picks in along Wilson and Clarendon Boulevards, including Galaxy Hut, Whitlow’s on Wilson and Spider Kelly’s. Arlington is also full of other hot spots besides Clarendon, including Ballston and Courthouse. The neighborhoods of Washington DC are also close by; Georgetown is a 10-minute or less drive away! Stop by Georgetown for a drink on the Waterfront, great restaurants and of course some of the best shopping in the DC area.
Parks and Nature Trails
Windy Run Park is the main source of recreation for Riverwood residents. This 14-acre park has loads of nature for exploring, including Windy Run Stream and nature paths. The nature paths in the community connect to both Potomac Heritage Trail and Kenmore Street. Potomac Heritage Trail is an ideal trail for both leisure and travel, with miles of paved and gravel trail. Another large park in the area is Potomac Overlook Park, which is located just a couple of blocks north of the neighborhood. This park has 70 acres of space, trails, educational gardens, a picnic area, and a nature center. To the south lies Fort CF Smith Park, which has 19 acres of space, historic sites including Civil War ruins, wildlife observation opportunities, and an ornamental peace garden.
